Single turnout inspection
Aug 01, 2024| 1. Track gauge and level inspection position
The inspection position of track gauge and level generally follows the principle of characteristic points and roughly equidistant.
The basic method is: straight first and then curved, walking clockwise.
Straight first and then curved means that in the guide curve part, if the track gauge and level of straight and curved sections are to be measured at the same time, in order to avoid errors in recording, the straight section should be measured first and then the curved section; walking clockwise means that when checking the frog section, in order to ensure that the active end of the track gauge is located in the guardrail wheel flange groove, when the track gauge is held in the right hand, it should be measured in a clockwise direction. For example, the straight section should be measured first and then the curved section for the right turnout. When the track gauge is held in the left hand, the walking direction is opposite.
Reference section for horizontal measurement
Generally, the straight outer section and the guide curve upper section are used as the reference section, that is, the height of the straight outer section and the guide curve upper section is positive. Now there are also places that unify the horizontal reference section of the main line and the turnout.
Level at the point rail
The point rail and the heart rail of the speed-up (high-speed) turnout are made of AT rails. Except for the top cut of the point rail and the heart rail, there is no structural level. Therefore, the level inspection location is the same as the track gauge inspection location.
Track gauge at the point rail
At the point rail top surface width of 5mm, the top surface of the point rail is 14mm lower than the top surface of the basic rail. Therefore, the track gauge of the large-number turnout cannot be measured from this range to the tip of the point rail. The frame size is measured with a track ruler, which is much different from the track gauge.
2. Direction and height inspection
Use a 10m chord to measure the direction and height of the straight outer strand. The direction is measured on the non-working side of the rail. In addition to considering the location of the high and low points, the height measurement must also consider their mutual influence and the location of the chord head.
Height = plate thickness - (measurement result + 1)
General speed turnouts (P43, P509, 12 and P609 turnouts) generally have 17 points of turnout gauge inspection, but at each point where the gauge decreases, one point should be inspected every 1m. If the decrease rate is found to be unqualified or exceeded, it should be recorded in the note column of the turnout inspection record book.

Key inspection methods for single turnouts
1. Inspection items
Inspection items include gauge, level, height, direction, offset, travel, opening, groove width, creep, overrun and overrun subtotal.
Fill in the logbook with routine items such as station name, rail type, turnout number, date and name.
2. Select tools and inspection
Track gauge (check validity period, verify level), offset gauge (check validity period and insulation sleeve), chord, folding ruler (small steel ruler), stone pencil, logbook and pen.
3. Operation steps
(1) Verify the track gauge.
(2) Check the height and direction of the connecting part and the switch part.
(3) Measure the gauge, level and groove width: measure the travel when measuring the gauge of the tip of the point rail; measure the opening when measuring the gauge of the middle of the point rail; and measure the height and direction of the switch part when measuring the gauge of the straight track.
(4) Measure creep and offset.
(5) Measure height and direction.
(6) Calculate the width of the guardrail groove and wing rail groove, mark the excess and check.
