The hydraulic tamping machine uses an electric motor or an internal combustion engine (gasoline engine or diesel engine) as the prime mover, and drives the oil pump through a belt drive to generate hydraulic oil. The pressure oil enters the working cylinder through the reversing valve, thereby lifting or opening and closing the tamping pick. At the same time, the prime mover drives the vibration shaft to rotate at high speed through another belt drive, causing the tamping pick to vibrate. After the vibrating tamping pick is inserted, the ballast is vibrated, causing the mutual friction resistance to be reduced or overcome, causing the ballast to assume a "flow state". Therefore, the ballast is rearranged in the relative motion, and coupled with the clamping effect of the tamping pick during the clamping action, the ballast under the pillow is dense.
